The Shadyside Action Coalition

The Shadyside Action Coalition (SAC) is made up of people like you – homeowners and renters – Shadyside residents who have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life in our eclectic neighborhood.

If you are civic-minded, interested in grassroots community group activities, enjoy “spirited discussions,” and have a good sense of humor, we encourage you to get involved. Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at Winchester Thurston Lower School on Ellsworth at Morewood Avenues, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. Representatives from Councilman Peduto’s and Mayor Ravenstahl’s offices, plus our Police Commander, regularly attend and provide important community news and safety information.

Check our “News and Events” sidebar to the right for details and additional neighborhood items.

Summer 2012 Business

    By Carol McGinty, Vice President

The Shadyside Action Coalition will be focusing on three major areas of local concern during the summer months. These include:
    (1) Participation in the community process through a collaborative effort with the Baum Centre Corridor Initiative regarding various projects across the area, including the Highland Avenue/Ellsworth Avenue bridge, the UPMC Master Plan, development along Penn Avenue, and the expansion of the Market District.
    (2) Collaborating with Councilman Bill Peduto’s office on the flood remediation project.
    (3) Launching a neighborhood-wide membership campaign that will include a ‘Welcome to Shadyside’ initiative for those new to the area.
In addition, SAC is planning for the 2011 Annual Meeting to be held in late May or early June, and the Shadyside House Tour to be held on September 30th.
