Each year in October the Shadyside Action Coalition sponsors the
Annual Shadyside House Tour. It is the primary
fundraiser for the Shadyside Action Coalition (SAC), allowing
the organization to continue working towards maintaining and
preserving the quality of life in Shadyside. Each year our tour consists of homes of all shapes and sizes. Contemporary, traditional and the classic Victorian that is so prominent in this wonderful neighborhood of ours. You will also have the opportunity to meet many of the homeowners who support the efforts of SAC by opening up their homes to you on this very special day and sharing their renovation stories and ideas with you. Please check back for this year’s date |

Images of America Pittsburgh's Shadyside |
|

The suburb of Shadyside was established in the middle of farmland during the late 1860s when the Shadyside train station opened. As Pittsburgh grew into the world's preeminent industrial city, Shadyside became the home of many influential men of the industrial age. Rapid change struck Shadyside early in the 20th century when commerce sprouted up around the perimeter of the neighborhood to cater to the residents' demand for luxury goods and services. Within another decade industry moved in, especially close to the train tracks, and in 1915, the Ford Motor Company assembly plant opened in Shadyside. Donald Doherty is the founding chair of the Historic Shadyside Committee of the Shadyside Action Coalition. These historic images have been selected from the Senator John Heinz History Center Library and Archives, the Archives Service Center and Digital Research Library at the University of Pittsburgh, and private collections. |
