The Shadyside House Tour will be held on Sunday, October 6th, 2013!

The Shadyside Action Coalition sponsors the Annual Shadyside House Tour every fall **“rain or shine”**. Proceeds from the Shadyside House Tour, our primary fundraiser, allow us to continue working to improve the quality of life in Shadyside. Each year, the self-guided tour consists of 7-8 private homes of all shapes and sizes – contemporary, traditional and the classic Victorian that is so prominent in our neighborhood. The Tour provides an opportunity for us to showcase our neighborhood, with people from all over the area attending the House Tour each year to learn about the latest renovation and decorating ideas from participating homeowners. Free trolley transportation is provided to all the homes on the tour.
This year’s tour will be Sunday, October 6th from 11 AM – 5 PM.

Money raised from this neighborhood event is put back into our community in many ways such as:

Financial assistance for children to attend the summer arts camps at the Shadyside Center for the Arts
Winchester Thurston’s scholarship aid program
Installation of bike racks throughout the Shadyside
Block Watch signs in connection with our Public Safety Committee’s neighborhood Block Watch program
“Welcome to the Neighborhood” packets for new neighbors

Monthly Meeting - Shadyside Action Coalition
Date: Thursday, June 13, 2013, 6:30 PM Location: Winchester Thurston School Board Room, Lower School, corner of Ellsworth Ave. and Morewood Street (enter on Morewood). Agenda includes updates from city council, public safety, neighborhood news, and presentations from the Steel Cactus restaurant (Walnut St.) and Ed Pope Architects regarding the property at 5135 Fifth Avenue. The meeting is open to all - join us!

Upcoming Street Closures
Timeframes: Weekends - June 7 - 30, 2013 Please be aware that Continental Building Systems, the demolition contractor working on the Don Allen site, has been granted a Traffic Obstruction permit for portions of Baum Blvd and S. Aiken for June 7 - 30, 2013* -- Friday at 7:00pm to Monday at 6:00am *Although the permit has been granted for all weekends in June, it is hoped that the required work will be completed the first weekend.

UPMC Shadyside's 10-year Master Plan has been published online and filed with the city. This plan encompasses traffic, parking and pedestrian changes that will certainly impact Shadyside and Bloomfield. Click here to read the plan.

Councilman Peduto Releases Report of Flooding in District 8 After six-months of study through meetings with over 300 residents and property owners, and analysis of the catch basins and sewer lines, the Councilman and staff have completed a comprehensive report of flooding in District 8. The report contains specific descriptions of the areas most in need of attention and recommendations for how to address the problems. Click here to read the reports.
